What is ADDIE model?

The Phases of The ADDIE Model
As said before the ADDIE model consists of five phases to develop the final product, by going throw each phase in order, using feedbacks and iterating the model until reaching the desired result, so what are these phases? And what will be done in each phase?
1- Analyze
The analysis phase’s objective is to establish some of the main points to understand the current situation and the goals of the training, which includes:
– Clarifying the instructional problem.
– Establishing the instructional goals and objectives.
– Identifying the learning environment.
– Defining the learner’s skills and knowledge level.
– Mapping the needed resources required for the training.
The goals of this phase are usually achieved by answering a series of questions that defines and point out the needed information, such as who are the learners, what are the learners and stakeholders looking to achieve, what are the necessary content, what are the available and needed resources and many other questions that help to reach a complete understanding of the project.
2- Design
The design phase must be systematic and specific, mainly concerned with learning objectives, assessment tools, exercises, content, topic analysis, lesson planning, and media selection.
In this phase, the developers define the learning objectives, create the content outlines, develop scripts, select the media that will be used in the learning process, set out time frames for each activity, and choose the appropriate assessment methods to measure the effectiveness.
3- Development
In the development phase, the different designs are translated into working products, this process can be divided into three tasks: drafting, production, and evaluation.
Some of the developer’s objectives in this phase are:
– Producing the learning product according to the design, including creating the content.
– Determine the instructional strategies, media, and methods.
– Evaluating the product through testing with the assessment methods selected in the design phase.
– Deployment of the selected learning technologies.
4- Implementation
After the product is finished and tested in the development phase, it is time to deliver the product to the learners through the chosen media, it is the start of the actual learning, but not the end of the product development as in this phase the learning process is monitored to gain the needed feedback from learners and instructors to further enhance the product and achieve the defined objectives.
The implementation phase may be considered the most important phase of the process, it reflects the work that has been done in the previous phases and delivers the most feedback that is then used to redesign, edit and enhance the final product.
5- Evaluation
The main goal of the evaluation phase is to determine if the goals have been met and to establish what will be required moving forward in order to further the efficiency and success of the project.
The evaluation must answer certain questions such as:
– Did the learners gain the desired knowledge?
– Were they motivated to learn?
– Did the course meet the goals set in the analysis phase?
– What changes are required to refine the final product?
The answers could be obtained by various methods including surveys, interviews, or any assessment tool chosen.
